Rug and Textile Appreciation Morning

10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon

This meeting is a chance for members to mix and mingle while learning about rugs and textiles in each other’s collections. The format is based on the popular “Rug and Textile Appreciation Mornings” held at The Textile Museum, in Washington DC. Members are strongly encouraged to bring several rugs and textiles to show and discuss. We really can’t have too many pieces – the more there is to look at, the more we can learn.

Maybe you have a rug or textile that is unusual, or a recent acquisition, or simply something you’d like to know more about. Some pieces have a story that makes them especially meaningful to you. Bring a few favorites and let the members of STARS share your enjoyment. All pieces are welcome – whether a rug or a textile, whether antique or less so. The fun is in the sharing.

Our moderator, Barry O’Connell, is one of the internet’s most prolific and authoritative commentators on antique rugs and textiles, so you’re sure to gain some insights on the pieces that people bring. His website, www.spongobongo.com, is an exhaustive encyclopedia and shopping guide for anyone interested in antique rugs and the dealers who sell them. In addition to www.spongobongo.com, Barry O’Connell is the author of numerous articles on oriental rugs and textiles, and a frequent contributor to other websites and internet newsgroups.

Thea Sand, owner of Emmanuel’s, will be hosting our meeting, and providing coffee and donuts for us to enjoy. Please join us!

Meeting Location and Directions:

Emmanuel’s Rug & Upholstery Cleaners is located at 1105 Rainier Ave South, Seattle WA 98144. Free off-street parking is available in their lot and at nearby businesses. 206-322-2200.

From I-5 North:

Take the I-90 E/Dearborn St./Airport Way exit – EXIT 164 – toward Bellevue/ Spokane/4th Ave South. Take the Dearborn St. exit, turn LEFT on South Dearborn St. Turn RIGHT onto Rainier Ave South. Go exactly 2 blocks to Norman Street and turn RIGHT into the lot.

From I-5 South:

Merge onto I-90 via EXIT 164A toward Spokane

Take the Rainier Ave South exit – EXIT 3

Turn LEFT onto Rainier Ave South, turn Left into the lot.
